Transform Your Showering Experience

Customize the shower of your dreams with KOHLER® showering components that allow you to choose exactly what you want, down to the tiniest detail.

Getting Started

Shower design and selection starts with considering your space and two major components—the water components (showerheads, handshowers, rainheads, body sprays, valves, and trim) and the structural components (the base, door, and built-in accessories).

  1. How much space do you have?
  2. Who will be using it? You'll likely make different decisions for a master bath versus a guest or kids' bathroom.
    • Does anyone using the shower have mobility issues or do you want to design the shower to accommodate future mobility issues?
    • How tall are the individuals who will be using the shower?
  3. Is this a refresh, remodel, or new build? The possibilities are greater with a new build or remodel versus a refresh.
  4. What type of spray do you prefer? Do you want a showerhead that accommodates multiple sprays?
    • Do you want multiple spray components, such as a rainhead, handshower, body sprays, and/or steam?
    • Are you looking to create an invigorating, spa-like showering experience?

Ribbon Massage

Water cascades at an angled stream to target the shoulders. This improved alignment offers greater warmth, comfort, and a more relaxing massage.

Water Usage

Water used by showerheads is measured in gallons per minute, or gpm. Today's water-saving showerheads, rainheads, and handshowers use between 1.5 and 2.0 gallons of water. The Environmental Protection Agency's WaterSense® program certifies showerheads and components that use less water.

You can have both a great shower and a low-flow showerhead.

Showering Components Guide

Valves and Trims

Kohler offers showering valves and trim in mechanical and digital configurations. Take the time to learn about them. These questions will help you identify what type of shower features your valve will need to support.

  1. Do you have a shower or a bath/shower?
  2. Would you prefer a consistent temperature setting each time you shower?
  3. How many components do you want to run in your shower? The more components, the more valve outlets you'll require.
  4. Do you prefer a sleek and streamlined look in your shower but desire three or more outlets? A digital valve will allow you to control all outlets via one interface, eliminating the need for multiple controls.
  5. Would you like different temperatures between components? Multiple valves and manual controls will give you precise control.

While design is probably top of mind, don't overlook practical functions like seating and safety. To help you get started, consider the following questions.

  1. Who are the primary users of the shower? You may make different choices based on primary users' age, mobility or whether or not the shower is in a master bath, kids' bath or guest bath.
  2. What shape will the shower be? Shower bases are available in standard rectangle, square and corner configurations. A custom shape might require the installation of a custom tile or stone flooring.
  3. What is the material of the shower walls? You might consider combining tile or stone walls with a cast iron or acrylic shower base.
  4. What type of cleaning and maintenance are required? Is easy cleaning important to you?
  5. Where is the drain placed in your shower space?

  2. Do you have space limitations that might get in the way of a shower door opening? If so, you might consider a sliding door versus a pivot door.
  3. Do you have a steam shower? If so, you'll want a shower door that goes to the ceiling to keep the steam inside your shower.
  4. Do you prefer the look of a framed door or a frameless door?
  5. Will you be installing the shower door yourself? Look for doors designed for easy installation.
