“What if we renamed the kitchen as the living room? There’s so much more living happening there!”

Julia Marcum

The Marcum home in North Carolina features a kitchen design that is a testament to the couple’s love of family, food, and form following function. Says Julia, “Every design decision we make for our home is to try and make it a better place for our family.”

In the kitchen, she describes a typical night where Chris starts cooking with cookbooks on the countertop and “slow jams” in the background. After dinner, Julia and her daughters clean up around the KOHLER Prolific® workstation kitchen sink, blaring their dance party soundtrack.

Adding the Artifacts® wall-mount pot filler was a bonus for convenience. Matching the finish throughout the space was a curated style choice.

Even though the focal point of her kitchen island is the Artifacts® bridge kitchen faucet, Julia reminds us to also find space for your music, a place to sit an look out the window, or a spot to stash school papers.

“When you dedicate a part of your kitchen for something specific that you love, then you will of course love the kitchen more.”

Selecting Vibrant® Polished Nickel as the finish for their kitchen faucet and pot filler was the Marcums aiming for “more collected than curated,” as Julia describes. She went on to divulge some sources of inspiration, “Give me all the period drama movies. I’ll pause on the interiors and take notes! That’s how we ended up with marble and soapstone in our kitchen, and the shape of our plaster range hood.”

The design-savvy Marcums also work with design associates at their local KOHLER® Store for fine-tuning and final affirmation. Julia recalls, “Getting their expert eyes and stamp of approval on something we stewed over for so long gave us the confidence to move forward.”
