Buying Guide

Everything you need to know about choosing a bath.

How to Choose a Bath

Your bath is your space to soak, relax, and unwind after a long day. It's your private getaway at home. Bring the luxuries of the spa into your home with features that heat and move water, air, and sound over your body. Let us help you find the right bath for you and your space.

Getting Started

In order to identify the bath best suited to your requirements and the dimensions of your bathroom, consider the following:

1. What is your project scope — a simple refresh or full remodel? Are there space or plumbing constraints?

2. Who will use the bath? How will the bath be used? Consider mobility needs and children or pets when selecting key features.

3. Check in with your project team to ensure you understand any requirements and constraints in terms of bath weight (both empty and full) as well as water heater capacity.

Installation

Before beginning your design journey, consider your space. Existing walls and plumbing may dictate the size and style of bath that can be installed.

Design

Consider the style of your bathroom as you think about bath shape, style, material, and color.

Features

Hydrotherapies and upgraded features on a bath are what take the bathing experience from a simple soak to a rejuvenating, relaxing, spa-like experience.

Other Considerations

As you work to create a look and bathing experience you'll love, there are a few additional elements to consider, including type of faucet, bath drain, and whether ADA-compliance is important.

Bath Faucets

Choose from our elegant floor-mount bath fillers and deck- and wall-mount faucets with design styles ranging from traditional and timeless to modern and contemporary. You're sure to find the perfect bath faucet for your styling space.

Bath Drains

Kohler offers a variety of overflow drains that are compatible with your bath selection.

ADA-Compliant Baths

We have baths available in a variety of styles and colors that meet the Americans with Disabilities Act standards.

Bath Installations

Before considering your ideal bath style and experience, you need to understand the dimensions of your space and which bath style and size will fit. This is especially important if you are replacing an existing bath where the walls and the drain location are already established.

Bath Sizes

Bathtubs are available in a variety of sizes. Measure the length, width, and height to ensure the bath you choose will fit your space. You also need to consider the key users of the bath for comfort, immersion, and safety.

Water Depth

Bath height is measured from the floor to the top edge of the bath. Depth is measured on the inside of the bath from the base to the overflow drain. Depth, length, and width determine the bath's water volume. Be sure your floor can support the weight of the full bath and that your water heater will provide enough hot water to fill it.

Bath Design

A variety of elements make up the design of your bath, from shape and style to material and color. You might prefer a traditional design with fine detailing, or a modern style with purposeful simplicity and clean lines. You can use the design of your bath to coordinate with the rest of your bathroom, or to create a sense of balance through contrast with the rest of your space.

Color

The color you choose for your bath helps create the look and feel of your bathroom and helps inform the tone of the room. There’s no wrong answer. Choose the color that helps create the mood you’re after. Baths come in an array of rich colors that align with your style and can be matched to other fixtures.
