Kohler teamed up with world-renowned artist Daniel Arsham to create Rock.01, a limited edition of 99 3D-printed bathroom sinks that masterfully blend digital technology, heritage craft, and nature-inspired forms into what can only be described as functional high art.

Reimagining the sink, together.

Meet Rock.01

The first of its kind, this unconventional vessel sink reinterprets stacked rocks via 3D-printed vitreous china and patinaed hand-cast brass—symbolic of the collaboration and innovation built on the heritage of the KOHLER® brand.

The sink’s physical composition underpins the notion of “future meets past” with a digitally crafted vitreous china body resting atop traditional brass; the basin a modern-day interpretation of primitive coilbuilding techniques.

Produced by skilled artisans at Kohler headquarters in Kohler, Wis., each sink is unique unto itself and was delivered in Arsham Studio-designed housing with a certificate verifying its authenticity and edition number. The limited run sold out within minutes, making the sinks instant collectors’ items.

Too complex to realize by traditional methods, Kohler leveraged new, internally developed capabilities with 3D-printed ceramics to construct the asymmetrical sink body.

The coordinating brass piece requires a similarly lengthy production process, each piece hand-cast and then sent through a lengthy chamber vapor patina process to arrive
at its intended coloring.

The final process involves a continuous 7.5 hours of print time, expertly tracing the designed pattern as the coil layers build upward into the sink’s unique form.

Rock.01 pairs perfectly with the Components® faucet in Matte Black.

Stone Flow

Kohler partnered with Daniel Arsham to create Stone Flow, an inspiring homage to the Rock.01 sink, at Design Miami 2021. The installation explored the project’s experimental phase and used life-size stone-like objects that play with organic forms found in nature and emulated the design of the sink.

The Stone Flow installation reflects Arsham’s goal of integrating the real and imagined.

The Rock.01 sink replicates the soft, flowing lines created by natural processes.

Divided Layers

Unveiled in the historic Palazzo del Senato during Milan Design Week 2022, Daniel Arsham’s installation Divided Layers drew inspiration from his work on the Rock.01 sink, recreating the individual layers of the 3D printing process. The immersive  structure won the 2022 Fuorisalone Award.
